Ecuador 2006: A mountaineering challenge embracing culture and medicine
Objectives
From Quito to Chimborazo
The expedition has been organised in two parts. The first part will be accomplished in the first few days of the journey and is a historic, artistic and cultural tour of the architectural treasures of the Ecuadorian capital plus a meeting with important local institutions to define a possible project for restoring some of the historic centre of Quito, designated by Unesco as a “World Heritage” site.
Objective: to promote the opening of a restoration school in Quito, which would be managed with the help of Brandolin Dottor Group technicians and would contribute to bringing to Latin America the technology and know-how that has been acquired in restoring historic buildings.
Meetings have already been arranged for this purpose with the Italian ambassador in Quito, Giulio Cesare Piccirilli, and with the heads of the Fondo de Salvamento del Patrimonio Cultural and of Unesco.
The second part will be dedicated to climbing 4 Ecuadorian peaks, all volcanoes: Pichincha (4794 m), Illiniza (5126 m), Cotopaxi (5897 m) and lastly Chimborazo, which with its 6310 metres is the highest peak in South America.
